Deaf or speech impaired? We’re still here for you
SouthDoc’s SMS-based system allows deaf or speech impaired patients to access the out-of-hours GP service independently — a safe, patient friendly, efficient and confidential texting service for registered patients.
Getting set up
How to register
- Pre-registration form completed by the patient and emailed to reception@southdoc.ie or posted to: SouthDoc, Floors 2 & 3, Hilliard House, High Street, Killarney, Co Kerry, V93 K0DN.
- The patient’s profile is then created with all relevant demographic and medical information.
- A text message is sent to the patient to confirm registration is completed, and they are sent the designated SouthDoc text number for use during SouthDoc operational hours.
The text number is for deaf and speech impaired users only.
Using the deaf texting service
- From your mobile phone, send a short text message to the designated SouthDoc text number including your name, date of birth, present location, contact number, the illness that concerns you and if you can attend your closest treatment centre.
- SouthDoc responds appropriately and offers you an appointment at a treatment centre. Staff at the selected treatment centre will be notified of your arrival.
